Bonding

For those who may have less-than-perfect smiles, but do not necessarily need extreme dental treatments, there are other options available. Those who may have slightly chipped teeth or discoloration may find that all they need is something to cover up blemishes, like makeup for enamel. Here at Olympia Prosthodontics & Cosmetic Dentistry, we can use modern technology and devices to give you back an incredible smile without having to resort to long-term treatments or complicated procedures.

WHAT IS DENTAL BONDING?

Bonding is the use of resin, porcelain, or ceramic materials to make a damaged tooth appear unafflicted. It can be completed in one visit and usually does not take long to finish. It is one of the easiest methods of restoring a tooth while at the same time also one of the most affordable. Bonding can not only fix the appearance of your tooth but can also close up smaller gaps between the teeth so that they may appear more aesthetic.

Sometimes, bonding is used when you may need a small filling, but it is for one of your more obvious front teeth. It may also be incorporated into bridges which require a sturdy base and usually latch on to supporting teeth for added structure. Depending on the type of material that is used, your bonding procedure can be matched to your natural tooth color, so it blends in better.

HOW BONDING CAN BENEFIT YOU

Many people can understand how a whitening process could help their smile appear more attractive, but using over-the-counter methods can be dangerous and even when performed by a professional, it can take several treatments to receive the shade of white you hope to achieve. Through composite bonding, you can select the color you would like to have on your teeth, and it can then be applied in as little as one appointment.

During the procedure, a bit of the natural enamel is roughed up a bit to make it so the resin can attach to your tooth. After the resin is applied, a special light is used to set the resin and make it hard. Once it has been assured the fit is complete, and there is no excess resin, your tooth will be polished, and you are good to go. Lifestyle factors such as smoking or chewing tobacco and drinking coffee could change the color of your teeth, so be aware that continuing a particular habit may result in the staining your bond.

If you take good care of your teeth, such as brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and flossing on a regular basis, then you already probably have healthy teeth. The addition of bonded material, however, can add a layer of strength to the tooth if it was demonstrating signs of weakness. Many patients find that bonding is an effective means of giving their smile a boost that can last for several years.

For those who have discolored or chipped teeth and are looking for an answer, then it may help to know that there is a quick and easy solution which could solve the dental issue.
