TIPS YOUR DENTURES NO LONGER FIT SECURELY

You can wear removable dentures for quite a while before you start having problems with the fit. Because the gums tend to shrink when you wear dentures, the prostheses may not fit like they used to. The following information will give you more insights into dentures that need to be relined for a better fit.

DO YOUR DENTURES FEEL LOOSE?

One sign you have a problem with a secure denture fit is when your dentures feel loose inside the mouth. If this is the case for you, you need to have your dentures relined or adjusted.

ARE YOUR GUMS SORE, OR DO YOU HAVE PROBLEMS CHEWING OR TALKING?

Because of bone resorption and gum shrinkage, dentures will lose their grip and need to be adjusted. When this happens, you may experience sore gums or have problems with talking. You may notice your dentures click, or you have issues with eating certain foods. Any of these events indicate that you need to have some adjustments made.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

You can either choose from a soft reline or hard reline when having your dentures adjusted. Most patients like to have soft reline done because it is more comfortable and quicker too. Soft relines can be done quickly or at the patient's chairside in only about 6 minutes. A hard reline uses a harder material or denture base and lasts longer than a soft reline (around two years). Soft relines last about one year. If we need to send the dentures to a lab, you will be without your teeth for the time being.
