SIGNS YOUR DENTURES NO LONGER FIT PROPERLY

Dentures are a great solution when people have tooth loss. In fact, when you have experienced a loss of teeth, you know how wonderful dentures can be. Dentures work amazingly well when they fit properly. If it has been awhile since you had your dentures checked, how will you know if your dentures aren't fitting the way they should? Here are some signs.

YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE CHEWING

You may have a tooth that is gone from your dentures because of an accident, or you may not know what is going on with your dentures. All you know is that while they used to fit great not so long ago, but today you have trouble chewing. Maybe you feel your dentures slipping when you bite down. Perhaps you don't think your dentures are gripping your food tightly enough. These may be signs that your dentures need to be refitted.

SPEAKING OF ACCIDENTS

A lot of times, dentures develop missing teeth, cracks or chips because you drop them or step on them. This may sound silly, but accidents are one of the main reasons we have to repair or refit dentures. If you accidentally dropped your dentures, it is really important you bring them in.

OTHER SIGNS

One of the biggest signs that your dentures may not be fitting properly is tender, swollen gums. You may even have sores on your gums because they are rubbing up against your dentures constantly. This is especially common when you have your dentures fitted after trauma, such as if you have teeth knocked out due to a traumatic injury. Your gums may be swollen at the time you get your dentures fitted. Once the gums are no longer swollen, you may need to get your dentures adjusted. Also, over time, your gums may shrink a bit, and your dentures won't fit as well.

Remember, you always need to bring your dentures in when you come to see us. That way, we can keep checking them to make sure that they are fitting just the way they should. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
