There you are at your favorite restaurant enjoying your favorite meal and oops! You notice that your crown is loose. You don't panic, but you know you have a serious problem. Dental crowns, when cared for properly can and sometimes do last for several years and they provide not only the functionality you need, but also a pleasing look as well. However, after some years of use, no matter how well you care for them, you can notice that they wobble now and again. There may be times as well that you can notice that some food is getting stuck down there where the crown should be. Perhaps the tooth is becoming very sensitive to hot or cold food and drinks. These are all good signs that your crown is loose and needs a little work done.
ACCIDENTS HAPPEN
So, you have taken as good a care of your dental crown for as you can for years, and it is loose, so, what do you do now? If you have severe pain, of course, calling our office should be the very first thing on your list. If you are not in severe pain, your first action should still be to call our office. If the crown has not fallen out, resist the urge to try and wiggle it out. Try to use the other side of your mouth when chewing food until you can have the crown seen at the office. Further damage by chewing could only make things worse. Your tooth could be very sensitive without the crown. A loose crown is unsettling, especially when you have done all you can do to take good care of it. Don't make the mistake of thinking the crown is just a *little wobbly and it will be ok, call the office right away – the sooner, the better. The underneath of the crown is quite vulnerable to damage and if you wait too long there could be too much damage or decay and the dentin will change shape and then the crown won't fit anymore.
